Sathumpodaathay - A bold attempt
Director Vasanth is known for coming up with movies that blend classic and commercial aspects of cinema. A director, whose movies have romance and emotions laced at right mix, has lived up to his reputation in Sathumpodaathay.
Riveting performance by Padmapriya and Prithviraj coupled by melodious musical score by Yuvanshankar Raja work out wonders. Unlike others, Vasanth had attempted his hand at a bold theme. His characterizations and placement of songs deserve a special pat.
However, on the flip side, Vasanth seems to have lost the steam towards the climax. The movie is woven around Padmapriya. She plays her role with ease and the emotions are brought out in a subtle way. She is supported well by Prithviraj. The handsome Prithvi gels well with his role.
However the surprise element in the movie is Nithin Sathya. The young actor, who made a mark for himself in Chennai 600028, has come up with a stunning performance. His spontaneous emotions and perfect dialogue delivery promises a lot. The story is about Bhanu (Padmapriya), who is married to Rathnavelu (Nitin Satya). The latter is a railway employee and an active sportsman.
Their life takes a wild turn, when Rathnavelu is diagnosed as an impotent by a doctor.
Unfortunately the couple plans to go for mutual separation. Bhanu decides to adopt a child and ensure that they stay together. An insecure Rathnavelu goes wild as he started hating the child. Bhanu is shocked when she comes to know that Rathnavelu knows about his physical impediment even before their wedding.
When she starts to lead an independent life, she comes across Ravichandran (Pritviraj), a happy-go-lucky youngster, who impresses her. When things gets rosy for Bhanu, fate takes a turn with the return of Rathnavelu. The rest is narrated in a lengthy climax.
Vasanth seems to have adopted his mentor's way of narrating the screenplay. Influence of K Balachander is visible in the movie. Yuvanshankar's melodious background score adds momentum to the screenplay. On the performance side almost all the characters have come up trumps. Vasanth has tried his best to make an honest movie.

Azhagiya Tamil Magan :

Azhagiya Tamil Magan - Entertaining & enthralling
Director Bharathan is coming up with his promising loads of commercial cocktail is Vijay's 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' releasing on Deepavali day.
Vijay films always promise a mix of entertainment with catchy songs, pulsating stunt sequences and punch dialogues with his colorful looks...
'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' is undoubtedly the most consistent and entertaining album for a Vijay's movie ever when it comes to music.
Adding spice to this already happening action-packed and dramatic movie is maestro A R Rahman’s music.
Rahman rocks the big time! Looks like, he has sung the intro song of 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan'. The remix of the yesteryear number ‘Ponmagal Vandhal’ is a huge hit among the music-lovers.
Buzz is that Vijay appears in a dual role in the movie for the first time in his career with ‘Sivaji’ fame Shreya and glam doll Namitha. The story has been kept a secret.
'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' would be a real entertainer for Vijay fans! It has a different storyline and sequences which unfolds in an interesting manner.
Sources say that the movie is about a youth possessing Extra Sensory Power (ESP), who predicts the future!
"Songs were shot abroad and especially a romantic number featuring Vijay and Namitha shot in Bangkok is a delight for eyes" says Bharathan. “ 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' would be a real entertainer for Vijay fans”, he adds.
“The movie which has been granted a 'U' certificate by the censor board which will be hilarious and entertaining”, says Vijay.

KANNAMOOCHI YENNADA: (PLEASE DOWNLOAD MEGA UPLOAD TOOLBAR)

Director :Priya .V
Producer:U TV, Radaan, Pyramid
Music:Yuvan Shankar Raja
Cast:Satyaraj, Radhika, Pritviraj, Sandhya .

Priya.V, the director who made that sweet and sensible Kanda Naal Muthal, has come out with her new film Kannamoochi Yenada, a Kollywood take on the Hollywood film Meet The Parents. It falls way short of its basic inspiration, and is all cardboard cut-out characters, with no story to tell!
In Malaysia, Harish (Pritviraj) meets Deva (Sandhya) and it is love-at-first-sight for the young man. He lost his parents at an early age and is brought up by his uncle (Radha Ravi) a businessman. Soon Deva reciprocates his love and they come to India to meet her parents Aarumugham (Satyaraj) Chennai city police commissioner and his docile wife Damayanthi (Radhika). Aarumugham does not like Harish and is suspicious about his intentions. A cat and mouse game follows. But slowly the story shifts to the older couple who drifts apart. Now it is turn of Harish to bring the parents together, as Damayanthi and her daughter goes away to Ooty to be with Aarumugham’s twin sister Seetha (Sripriya).
Anyone game for 145 minutes of how to win a girl and her parents, as the story moves at snail pace from Malaysia to Chennai and from there to Ootty, and back to Chennai, and ends in marriage hall, via the Villipuram flyover? The trouble with Priya's script is that the first half candyfloss romance between Pritviraj and Sandhya shifts focus in the second half to the mature, kiss and make-up story of Sathyaraj and Radhika. Post interval the film starts dragging, and Sripriya, who plays the estranged twin sister of Sathyaraj, is screechy and hysterical and makes the proceedings unbearable.
And at the end, if you do have a smile it is only due to Sathyaraj. He is the only sparkling spot in this slow coach of a movie. He is hyper and adds spice, especially the scene where he meets Pritviraj for the first time and the drive back from the airport in a police jeep where he shouts instruction on the wireless, making Pritvi scared! Radhika as his loving wife fits the bill. Pritvitraj as Harish is a tailor-made role for him though he has to take care of not being typecast in similar ‘good guy’ roles. The Mozhi hang-over is too evident and he should do something about his heavy Malayalee accent when he speaks in Tamil. Sandhya has done her role with ease but her dubbing is too jarring and stands out like a sore thumb.
All credit to Preeta, the cinematographer, who has done a good job. However the same cannot be said of Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music and Priya’s song placement. The only hummable number is the first song Megham Megham…, and the picturisation of all the songs are nowhere near Priya’s first film. On the whole, the first half wins you over with its simple charm, its immensely likeable characters, and the intrinsic humour in the writing. But the latter half is too long, contrived and predictable to the extent of being seriously boring. In the final analysis, however, these are a few wrong turns in an otherwise entertaining film that'll bring a smile to your face.

Polladhavan - Keen to strike it rich

Dhanush is keen to strike it rich with his Polladhavan. The movie's name is inspired by his father-in-law (Rajnikanth's) earlier film.
Speaking about the film, Dhanush says, “I play a boy next-door with dreams and aspirations to come up in life. The problems that I encounter in realizing my mission are what the story is all about”.
The movie is directed by debutant Vettrimaran and features Divya (Kuthu Fame Ramya) as the heroine.
“Vettrimaran, who had worked as an associate to cinematographer - director Balu Mahendra is directing the film. Divya plays my heroine. It is a romantic entertainer and we are planning for a release soon”.
Polladhavan has cinematography by Velraj and editing by V T Vijayan. A major portion of the movie was shot in and around Chennai.
Quick to deny that the movie would have no influence of Rajnikanth's mega hit Polladhavan, Vettrimaran says, “It was indeed a joy to work with a hero like Dhanush for my debut venture itself. He was very co-operative. A director's actor, Dhanush has come out with right expressions in the movie”.
On Divya, he says, “She is an actress with abundant energy and talent. She has done justice to her role”.
“G V Prakash has come up with half-a-dozen peppy songs for the movie and is sure to top audio charts”, he adds.
“A mix of action, romance and humour, Polladhavan is sure to rock the audience”, he says.

Kattradhu Thamizh :
Kattradhu Thamizh - For the cause of Tamil [Saturday, September 01, 2007]
Keen to play varied roles in his movies is young Jeeva. His ‘Kattradhu Thamizh’, which carries a lofty theme, is ready for release this week-end. The movie was initially titled ‘Thamizh MA’.
A debutant Ram, a former associate of veteran Balu Mahendra is wielding the megaphone for the movie.
According to him, the movie is a mix of commercialism and classicism. In a nutshell, it is the story of a Tamil postgraduate who is unable to carve a niche for himself and the pains he has to undergo in the process.
A newcomer Anjali plays opposite Jeeva. Karunaas plays a prominent role while director Azhagam Perumal is also in the cast.
Jeeva plays the male protagonist (Prabhakaran) and appears in four different roles. According to Jeeva, “It is one of the challenging roles that I have played in my short career so far. All credits to Ram for conceiving a different storyline. It carries a strong message too.
Anjali plays a conservative girl Anandi. She is one of the talented actresses to emerge in Tamil cinema and I am confident that she would win awards and accolades for her performance”.
Jeeva says, “The movie is laced with right commercial elements. We are confident that it would strike chord with the masses”.
Heaping laurels on Jeeva's performance, Karunaas said, "I admire Jeeva for his dedication and sincerity. I have acquired the distribution rights for the movie in Tamil Nadu and the movie would be released with over 80 prints this weekend”.
Yuvanshankar's music is a major highlight. He has brought out the emotions and travails of the male protagonist, says Ram.
Lyrics are by Na Muthukumar.
